Corrective Chiropractic: Why is a Proper Neck Curve Important to Your Health?

A healthy human spine has three distinct curves that allow nerve energy to flow freely from the brain into the limbs and organs. These curves also act as shock absorbers, and provide balance and support for the body.
Perhaps the most important curve is the cervical lordosis or neck curve. This curve protects the neck from damage, reduces the force (stress and strains) on the spinal cord and nerves, and plays a tremendous role in allowing proper nerve energy to be transmitted to the rest of the body.
The late Alf Breig MD, PhD, (a leading neurosurgeon in his time) demonstrated that reductions in the neck curve can stretch the cervical spinal cord and brain stem by as much as 4.2 cm (1.68 inches) and that this stretch is transmitted all the way down to the nerves in the lower back region. Obviously over time, this stretch on the nerve tissue can put the body in a state of dis-ease and lead to a number of altered health consequences.
Imagine if you took an unripe and unpeeled banana and forcefully changed the shape of its curve – either straightened it or reversed it. How do you think the banana would look like once peeled?
Poor postural habits, accidents, or injuries can change the alignment of your spine, and impede nerve energy from reaching your limbs and organs – leading to disability and disease.
Fortunately there exists specific spinal-remodeling techniques to correct abnormally aligned neck curves; which will in turn improve curvature and overall health.
Chiropractors certified in Chiropractic BioPhysics specialize in helping people restore their proper spinal curvature.
