How Your Emotions Affect Your Health
Life can be messy sometimes. With the fast pace most of us have to take in life, it can leave our emotions and mental health feeling totally tapped out more often than not. Poor emotional health is a big issue nowadays with so many radical changes to our way of life related to pandemic lockdowns, illness, and total changes in the way life is lived.
So how is this affecting your health? If you are dealing with some big emotions without an effective way to manage them- it can have a major effect!
Your Big Emotions and Your Health
Experiencing sadness, anxiety, and stress are a normal part of life. The problem is when these emotions are experienced chronically and without reprieve. Big emotions can create big changes in our hormone balance (and thus overall health) that dictates how the body functions on a daily basis. When we don’t get a good handle on these emotions and find them ruling our lives more often than not, it can manifest in a lot of different ways with our physical health. These include the following:
- Onset of chronic disease
- Insomnia
- Trouble concentrating
- Inflammation
- Aches and pains- typically chronic in nature
- Weight fluctuations
- Fatigue
- Poor digestion and bowel issues
How to Feel in Control of Your Health and Emotions
Since most of us can’t disappear to a cave or beach somewhere, it’s important to have some good strategies in place for effectively managing your emotions. Some of the top options include the following:
Find ways to effectively express your emotions. Holding them in and letting them build up can aggravate your physical symptoms. One great option is talking with a trusted friend, family member, or professional. Another great therapeutic option is journaling regularly.
Practice regular stress management to calm your body and mind. Daily self-care is key for reducing emotional baggage. Regular exercise, meditation, social time, and more can all help.
Be resilient and mindful. While we can’t always control the situations life throws at us, we can certainly control our reactions by practicing mindfulness techniques (easier said than done- yet a total game changer).
Address your physical health holistically. A health professional, like a chiropractor, can help maximize your physical health and guide you to feel better grounded in your emotions. This is done by addressing underlying issues related to spine misalignment and poor nerve flow. When the body is in balance, you will feel better equipped to deal with your big emotions- and vice versa!
Finding Professional Help
If you’re struggling with life, it’s most important to get the right help. This can come in many forms and it’s up to you to find the best avenue for you. Whether it’s from a chiropractor to provide you physical benefits and sustainable holistic health, or a mental health specialist- the right care is out there for you. Your emotional well-being is so important for living your best life, don’t be afraid to talk about how you’re feeling and get the care you deserve.
