4 Things You Should Do for Your Spine Health

When it comes to back pain, it can put a major wrench in your way of life and leave you feeling stuck. Taking good care of your spine is an important part of living a high quality life. Ideally, you are keeping your spine health in mind preventatively and can live most of your life free of pesky back pain. However, since the majority of the population will experience back pain at some point in their lives, it’s good to know a few tricks for boosting your spine’s health.

Today, we’ll dive into some simple tips for keeping your spine as healthy as possible, no matter what life throws at you.

#1. Think About Your Ergonomics

The postures and activities we subject are spines to can be beneficial or detrimental, depending on the alignment of your spine. If you are continually putting your spine in awkward positions, this can lead to unnecessary damage and wear. Unfortunately, many of us don’t pay any attention to this unless we start to experience pain. Here are some quick tips to keep your spine as aligned as possible.

Pay attention to your sleep position- sleep on a firmer mattress that supports your spine’s natural curves. Plus, use pillows to support your legs and spine as needed.

Sitting position- setup your sitting spaces to support your low back and avoid slouching of the upper back, shoulders, and head. Plus, take regular breaks from sitting throughout the day.

#2. Get Moving

The body and spine are made to move. Inactivity and stagnancy can be hard on tissue health and lead to pain, stiffness, and more. Consistent exercise is important. A balanced program includes a focus on the following elements.

  • Regular cardio (2-3 times per week) for circulation and weight management
  • Core strengthening
  • Stretching for optimal flexibility
  • Focusing on muscle balance with good form and regular strength training
  • Wearing appropriate gear, like good supportive shoes, while exercising

#3. Manage Your Stress

Stress can do so much damage to the body when it is not well managed. This increases your risk for injury of the back. Don’t forget to incorporate these simple but hugely beneficial options into your routine.

  • Regular self-care
  • Consistent Exercise
  • Mindfulness
  • Making other healthy choices that make you feel good related to sleep, nutrition, relationships, and more

#4. See Your Chiropractor Regularly

Need help with all the tips we discussed above? Work with a holistic health professional that gets it, like a chiropractor. Below are just a few of the major benefits to regular chiropractic care for your spine.

  • Have your spine assessed regularly for misalignments
  • Get adjustments as needed to optimize nerve flow
  • Get tons of holistic advice for feeling your absolute best
  • And more!
