Suffering from scoliosis? Chiropractic BioPhysics® Can Help.

Did you know that three out of every hundred people suffer from scoliosis? Not everyone is diagnosed with scoliosis early in life, and many adults experience the side effects of scoliosis without understanding that they are suffering from an abnormal curvature of the spine. If you or someone you love has been experiencing forward head posture, slumped shoulders, or even a swayed or flat back, there’s a chance that you may have scoliosis. When the spine is in its optimal position, the body is aligned from head to toe. Aligned posture means that the head rests squarely above the shoulders, the shoulders rest above the hips, and the hips rest above the knees. If your posture is not aligned, you’ll find that your head sits forward, beyond your shoulders, your shoulders are slumped ahead of your hips, and your hips are not aligned with your knees and feet. Scoliosis can also cause pain and discomfort in the neck and back, leading to discomfort in everyday activities and often creating challenges in maintaining a comfortable and healthy lifestyle. Do you think you’re suffering from scoliosis? Chiropractic BioPhysics® can help.

What exactly is scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a spinal deformity that causes the spine to exhibit an S-shaped curve. This S-shaped curve is not natural for the spine and places strain across the entire body, which can lead to pain, discomfort, and a variety of other conditions. Scoliosis usually begins in childhood, and the reason for it can vary for every person. For some, the birth experience or congenital factors can influence the onset of scoliosis. For others, scoliosis can originate from a childhood injury or accident, or any event that causes a physical impact on the spine and joints.

If scoliosis is not treated, the curvature in the spine can become worse with every year of life. This is because gravity and natural degeneration of the spine can both contribute to the worsening of scoliosis, in addition to the natural wear and tear of daily life. Typically, scoliosis worsens about 1 to 3 degrees each year.

Scoliosis and the Neck

While most people understand that scoliosis is a condition of the spine, they often fail to realize that the spine includes the neck—the cervical spine. If you’re wondering “does scoliosis affect my neck?” the answer is “yes!” The entire spine should be aligned in order to support good posture. If it’s not, like in the case of scoliosis, every area of the spine will be strained.

When the spine is experiencing scoliosis, this can result in pain, tension, and discomfort in the neck. It can also contribute to forward head posture (frequently called “tech” or “text” neck). Scoliosis disrupts the structure of the spine, meaning that bearing the head and body’s weight can be more difficult.

Scoliosis and the Shoulders

Just like with the neck, scoliosis can strain and cause tension in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the shoulders. The shoulders are meant to attach to an aligned spine, and their positioning and evenness rely on the upright position of the bones and joints. If your bones and joints are curved into an S-shaped curve, as in the case of scoliosis, it’s likely that the shoulders will be slumped, asymmetrical, or otherwise challenged.

While many people believe that it is possible to “brute-force” the upright posture of the spine and shoulders by simply “standing up straight,” this is not the case. If you’re suffering from scoliosis, you are not going to be able to resolve it by changing your posture superficially. If you’re experiencing rounded shoulders that don’t seem to straighten up, no matter how hard you try, you may have underlying undiagnosed scoliosis.

Scoliosis and the Back

Scoliosis can cause a lot of pain and discomfort in the back, given that it forces the body out of alignment. When the skeletal structure is out of alignment, everything in the body suffers, as the alignment of organs and the body’s systems relies on proper structural alignment. When the spine is misaligned and set in an S-shaped curve, as is the case in scoliosis, the back is also significantly strained. The ability to bear weight in the spine can be compromised, depending on the severity of scoliosis, and it can make simple activities like standing or sitting uncomfortable.

If you’re experiencing pain or discomfort in your back, this may be one of the first signs that there is a structural imbalance occurring. Even if you’re not suffering from severe scoliosis, misalignment (called subluxation) of the joints can press into and inflame nearby nerves, causing all kinds of compilations in the body’s function.

How Chiropractic BioPhysics® Can Help

Chiropractic BioPhysics® isn’t like any other kind of chiropractic care. Chiropractic BioPhysics® focuses specifically on a kind of treatment that is intended to deliver long-term results and produce life-changing transformation. Chiropractic BioPhysics® (also referred to as CBP) is based on scientific research focusing on the shape and function of the spine. Using advanced digital imaging technology and the expert assessment of a certified chiropractor, CBP stands out among other techniques as a lifetime solution for a variety of conditions caused by spinal deformities.

CBP utilizes mirror image® adjustments and customized spinal traction setups to move the joints and bones of the body back into proper alignment. When the bones and joints are moved into their correct positions, they support the body more effectively, facilitating improved posture, the decrease or elimination of many conditions, and improved nerve energy transmission.

Obstructed nerve energy flow can contribute to many negative conditions and sensations in the body. When the spinal structure is out of proper alignment, the nearby nerves can become inflamed and prevented from functioning normally. This can lead to a wide variety of symptoms, many of which are considered normal or uncurable. If you’re experiencing pain, discomfort, or negative physical conditions—or if you simply want to experience the highest level of health available for your body—discover a CBP-certified chiropractor near you today.
